Getting Down to Business

Great Info About the Free Downtown Glendale Business Information Fair and More Glendale Business Programs

Business owners, developers and interested residents are invited to attend a free Downtown Glendale Business Information Fair from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 15, to learn about current and future projects in downtown Glendale and other parts of the city.

The event will be held at the Glendale Civic Center, 5750 W. Glenn Drive (one block north of Glendale Avenue). For more information, call 623-930-2250.

Updates on Downtown Projects & More

The information fair, which has been hosted for the past three years by Glendale Councilmember David Goulet, provides attendees with the opportunity to speak directly with representatives from local businesses, Valley organizations and city departments.

“This event is a great way for us to inform the business community and others on all the development activity taking place in our downtown,” Goulet says. “There are several exciting projects planned over the next couple years that will spur additional development in the area.”

Some of these downtown projects include new residential housing and office/retail developments, a proposed dining district, a new parking structure and the Grand Avenue improvement project.

Representatives from the following businesses and organizations will be on hand to provide information and answer questions:

  • Vanguard City Homes
  • The Bead Museum
  • Glenn Condominiums

  • Habitat for Humanity

Staff from the Glendale Police, Fire, Economic Development, Special Events, Tourism, Parks & Recreation, Library, Code Compliance, Transportation, Building Safety, Planning and Community Partnerships departments will also be at the information fair.

June Business Programs at Glendale Public Library

The following free business programs will be taking place during June at Glendale Main Library:

  • Glendale Business Diversity Network Meets
    Thursday, June 1, 7 p.m.
    Large meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.
    Sherry Anne Rubiano, a small business reporter for The Arizona Republic community sections in Glendale, Peoria and the Northwest Valley, will discuss how business owners can get noticed by the press.

  • Walk-in Counseling with SCORE
    Saturday, June 3, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Small meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.
    No appointments are necessary for walk-In counseling with SCORE. The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) can advise on all areas of business, from start-up information to marketing and accounting concerns. The counseling is free. For more information about SCORE, call 602-745-7250.

  • Free Advice from the Small Business Experts
    Tuesday, June 6 & 20, 1 to 5 p.m.
    Small meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.
    Gilberto Padilla, a business analyst with Maricopa Community Colleges Small Business Development Center (SBDC) can counsel in either English or Spanish in a one-on-one setting. Counseling is appropriate for both start-up and existing business owners.
    Registration required; call the SBDC at 480-784-0590 to sign up for an appointment. There is no walk-in counseling.

  • Women Business Builders – Learn How to Sell to the Government
    Saturday, June 10, 2 p.m.
    Large meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown Street
    Yes, your small business can sell to governmental agencies. Nancy Byerly and Anita Gibson of the U. S. Small Business Administration will explain how to do it. The SBA representatives will explain how to partner with local, state and federal agencies in order to sell your products and services. Women Business Builders (WBB) in a free educational networking group open to all women in business or those thinking of starting one.
