Spring business seminars and assistance programs presented at the Glendale Main Library

Whether you’re starting your own business, have had one for years or are just thinking about ways to grow your enterprise, Glendale offers a variety of educational opportunities to help. Here are just a few classes, network meetings and programs offered in the next month.

  • Free Business Counseling with the Small Business Development Center
    Date: April 18
    Time: 1-5 p.m.
    Place: Small meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown Street
    Gilberto Padilla, a business analyst with Maricopa Community Colleges Small Business Development Center (SBDC), can counsel in either English or Spanish in a one-on-one setting. Counseling is appropriate for both start-up and existing business owners.
    Info: Registration required; call the SBDC at 480-784-0590 to sign up for an appointment. There is no walk-in counseling.

  • Prestamos Small Business Lending: Glendale Business Diversity Network
    Date: April 19
    Time: 7:45-9 a.m.
    Place: Large meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.
    The featured speaker is Teresa Miranda, Technical Assistance Manager for Prestamos Small Business Lending. Chicanos Por La Causa, a community development corporation, created Prestamos in an effort to provide economic opportunities for small and emerging small businesses in Arizona. Prestamos is a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) that makes loans for start-up and existing businesses. In addition to the loan programs, Prestamos offers technical assistance to small Arizona-based businesses.

  • Choosing the Right Legal Structure for Your Business
    Date: April 20
    Time: 7 p.m.
    Place: Large meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown Street
    One of the critical decisions a business owner must make in starting a business is which legal structure to choose. Should it be a sole proprietorship, an LLC, an S Corporation, a general or limited partnership, or some other form?
    Chuck Hess, a counselor with SCORE, will explain the differences in the various legal structures in “Business Formations.” Hess will cover the advantages and disadvantages of each structure. He will also discuss what documents and requirements go along with each business setup.

  • Free Advice from the Small Business Experts
    Dates: May 2 and 16
    Time: 1-5 p.m.
    Place: Small meeting room of Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown Street

  • Arizona Department of Revenue Holds Restaurant and Bar Workshop
    Date: May 4
    Time: 6 p.m.
    Place: Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown Street
    The Arizona Department of Revenue is presenting a free “Restaurant and Bar Workshop.” This workshop is aimed at owners of a restaurant, bar, catering service, lunch stand or delicatessen. Learn more about the restaurant and bar classification, statures and rulings, deductions and exemptions, and use tax. Find out how to figure your tax rate for the state, county and city; how to factor the tax and see some working examples.

  • Stop In for Small Business Counseling
    Date: May 6
    Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
    Place: Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown Street
    No appointments are necessary for “Walk-In Counseling with SCORE.”
    The Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) can advise on all areas of business, from start-up information to marketing and accounting concerns.
