Amazing Volunteers
How one Glendale teen made his mark on the city
He may only be 15 years of age, but Fernando Camou recently organized a community volunteer project for the City of Glendale that has residents sitting pretty.
Camou and about 30 friends, family members and fellow Boy Scouts and Boy Scout leaders spent a half day refurbishing benches in Downtown Glendale by sanding them down and oiling them to a glossy sheen.
Camou says that this project took him a few months to pull together. “I’m surprised at how good it turned out,” he says. “I wouldn’t mind doing it again.”
All of Camou’s hard work will have a high reward for him because he’s on the verge of earning an Eagle Scout rank, which is the highest award and honor in the Boy Scouts organization. He says he has a couple more tasks to complete, and, if all go as planned, he will receive the honor in a ceremony this coming summer.
Of course, like any good Boy Scout, Camou is no stranger to community volunteering and giving of his time. He’s served food to the needy for St. Vincent De Paul and has helped to build a much needed volleyball court for a church.
With so many charitable contributions at such a young age, there’s no telling what Camou will accomplish by the time he’s 20.
