Super Skaters
Competitors come from across the Valley to the Union Hills Classic Skateboard Competition
Got grind? Glendale does this Saturday as more than 125 skateboarders descend on the Union Hills Classic III skateboard competition. More than 750 spectators are expected to attend based on last year’s event, which was held March 2005.
This Year’s Event
The competition will start at 8 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 28, at Foothills Park skate court, 57th Avenue and Union Hills Drive. It features judges looking at skaters’ technique, style, difficulty of tricks, landings and sportsmanship.
Trophies will be awarded to the first through third place winners in each age division, and a ‘Best Trick Contest’ will be held with the winner landing a $300 gift certificate to Pulse Boardshop provided by Kronik Energy.
Spectator Fun
Raffles will be held throughout the day with prizes ranging from skate decks, trucks and wheels to T-shirts, sunglasses and gift certificates. The raffles benefit the Glendale Parks and Recreation Department’s skateboarding programs.
