State Magazine Recognizes Glendale Mayor, City Manager

Arizona Sports & Leisure Magazine has recently recognized Mayor Elaine Scruggs and City Manager Ed Beasley as two of the “top 30 Power Brokers” in the state for the major role they played in bringing the Jobing.com Arena, University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. and Westgate City Center to Glendale.

The magazine applauded the leadership of Scruggs and Beasley as their efforts have “resulted in an innovative sports and entertainment district that will serve as a major economic engine for Glendale for many years to come.”

The second annual Power Broker list is designed to honor people who have made the greatest impact on the past, present and future of the Valley sports scene. The list was compiled with the help of sports professionals.

The city of Glendale is home to the Phoenix Coyotes, Arizona Cardinals, Arizona Sting, Fiesta Bowl, 2007 Bowl Championship Series and Super Bowl 2008. University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. opens August 1.

The sports spotlight will shine brightly on the City of Glendale this fall with the opening of the new multipurpose stadium. Mayor Scruggs and Ed Beasley both played major roles in bringing Jobing.com Arena, the stadium and Westgate to their city thanks to good planning, a clear vision and an aggressive mentality. Glendale is also a leading contender to land a new two-team spring training facility. The efforts of Scruggs and Beasley resulted in an innovative sports and entertainment district that will serve as a major economic engine for Glendale for many years to come.
