Mayor Elaine Scruggs Honored as One of Valley’s Most Exemplary Community Leaders
Glendale Mayor Elaine Scruggs was honored as one of the Valley’s three most exemplary community leaders for her dedication to community service and for her efforts in promoting volunteerism.
Scruggs was recognized by the Make A Difference organization at its Sept. 23, 2000 annual gala, Hearts and Hands: An Evening to Celebrate Community Leaders. Make A Difference is a non-profit organization that meets community needs by creating rewarding volunteer opportunities.
“Mayor Scruggs was chosen as an honoree because she is truly committed to engaging citizens and businesses in getting involved in volunteer projects and community service,” said Make a Difference President and CEO Alison Rapping.
“The tremendous amount of volunteer projects we have done in Glendale is due to Mayor Scruggs, and they would not have been possible without her.”
Currently, Make A Difference works with more than 200 social service organizations to coordinate volunteer projects around the Valley. One ongoing community service project that the organization coordinates is Make A Difference Day, which the city of Glendale has participated in for the past seven years. Earlier this year, Glendale organized 120 volunteers to work on six different volunteer projects around the city as part of the daylong event. |
