What does a reference volunteer do?
A volunteer working in this area would organize books and periodicals in proper shelf order and shelf read other areas of reference. This job includes updating serials, assisting with retroconversion and weeding projects, and pulling out-dated materials from the new book area. The volunteer may also help with the computer reservation system. Other duties may also be assigned in the reference area.
Where would a reference volunteer work?
Reference volunteers work in the Adult Reference Department at the Main Library and the Velma Teague Branch.
When would a reference volunteer work?
Days and times volunteered are dependent on the library's needs and the availability of the volunteer, but are usually scheduled as follows:
Reference volunteers at the Main Library are scheduled Wednesday mornings for 3 to 4 hours.
Reference volunteers at the Velma Teague Library are scheduled to work during open hours, Monday-Friday, for a 3 hour period. Please call for Saturday volunteer opportunities.
