DIY CSI: Hands-on Forensic Science. Free your inner Sherlock by investigating some “DIY CSI: Hands-on Forensic Science” at the Velma Teague Branch Library. Join Professor Melissa Beddow from Grand Canyon University for hands-on experience with a mock crime scene! Take fingerprints, collect DNA, and process evidence like the real crime labs do every day. Whether you’re interested in a career in forensic science or just a fan of crime shows, this is a great way to get your hands dirty and work like the pros!  This program is appropriate for teens and adults. Math and Music. The Mill Ave Chamber Players takes a look at math and its impact on music and composers. From discussing the form of the piece of classical music to describing how composers were influenced by the Golden Ratio and the Fibonacci series, the Mill Ave Chamber Players will perform music from a variety of genres to explore this fascinating relationship. This program is offered by the Glendale Conservation and Sustainable Living Office in partnership with the Glendale Parks, Recreation, and Library Department. Registration opens 4/21. GED Math Tutoring. Drop in for a two hour tutoring session designed to enhance the math skills needed for GED examinations. Tutor Michael Horton is a graduate of UC Berkeley and has over 700 hours tutoring experience, including ESL classes. Monday, May 5, 6:00-8:00 PM. Storytime Room.
Stargazing & Calculating Astronomical Distances. Enjoy a night under the stars! In the first part of this program, professional stargazer Tony La Conte will explain how astronomers calculate the distances to moons, planets, star clusters, and galaxies. We will then move outside to Murphy Park to use powerful telescopes to help identify the globular star cluster M3, the Cigar Galaxy, the Ghost of Jupiter Nebula and the beautiful double star Cor Caroli. Bring digital cameras, not cell phone cameras, to take photos through the telescopes. Participants will be given sky maps for the months of May and June. Thursday, May 8, 6:30-7:45 PM.
