FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE :May 4 , 2006

CONTACT: Diane Nevill, (623) 930-3554, Public Information Officer
Anne Owens, (623) 930-3573, Adult Programming Librarian

GLENDALE, Ariz - Unknown, unexplored, unfamiliar, unrevealed, secret, strange, mysterious—they are all synonyms for “unexplained.” Take a deep breath. It’s back! Are you ready for the eighth season of “The Unexplained” at Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St.?

Adult Programming Librarian Anne Owens has a fascinating group of speakers lined up, starting on June 1, and running through September 28. All of the free programs are held on Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the library’s auditorium.

Audiences can look forward to a wide-range of topics. A few examples of the programs include hypnosis, ghost hunters, identity theft, animal communication, past life exploration, angels, birth order, and mediumship.

Kicking off the series on June 1 is “Hypnosis and the Powers of the Mind,” presented by hypnotherapist Alan Handelsman. According to this well-traveled practitioner, humans use only two to ten percent of their mind power. How can one get to the other 90 percent? He will teach various ways to use the power of the mind to solve problems, enjoy more fulfilling relationships, be smarter, perform better, have more money, or simply smile more during the day. Handelsman has been exploring the powers of the mind and how they can help people for over 20 years.

“Ghost Hunting and Haunting Investigations” will be offered on June 8. Is your house haunted? Do you have a spirit visiting you? Is it a guide, a family member or a . . . what? Psychic Medium Dave Campbell will explain the signs of spirits, what they want or need, and why they are here. Using his psychic skills, along with some simple equipment and techniques, the audience will better understand this phenomenon. If time allows, he will answer personal questions about visitations, hauntings or ghosts. He will also do some mini-readings.

June 15 will be the date for “Mental Nirvana” with Transpersonal-Hypno Coach Terri Love. Experience altered states of consciousness and gain positive insight into your “empowerment.” Through a guided visualization journey of meditation, individuals will access their innate wisdom, which resides in their Diamond Core God Cell, Heart Chakra.

Eddie Sessions of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office will be on stage on June 22 with “What’s Happened to ME? The Ultimate Identity Crisis.” Identity theft is a huge problem across the country and especially rampant in Arizona. According to the Federal Trade Commission, the Phoenix area ranked first in ID theft complaints among all metropolitan areas in the country. Identity theft occurs when someone uses your personal information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. According to Arizona Attorney General Terry Goddard, prevention is one of the best ways to combat identity thieves. Sessions will cover how identity thieves use the stolen information, tips for protecting one’s identity, what constitutes “personal identifying information,” how thieves get one’s personal identifying information, the most common kinds of ID fraud, and what to do if you become a victim of identity theft.

“The Forbidden Book – the Bible” will round out the June programs. On June 29, Don Callaghan, Director of The Bible Museum, Inc. in Goodyear, will discuss the history of the Bible from Moses to the first Bible printed in English in America. The timeline of Bible translation history began in 1,400 B.C when the Ten Commandments were delivered to Moses. A few significant dates include:  500 B.C. with the completion of all original Hebrew manuscripts, which make up the 39 books of the Old Testament; 1st Century A.D. with the completion of all original Greek manuscripts, which make up the 27 books of the New Testament; and 1384 A.D. with John Wycliffe’s handwritten manuscript copy of all 80 books of the Bible. In 1560 A.D. the Geneva Bible was printed; it was the first English Bible to add numbered verses to each chapter. He will also discuss many more momentous events in Bible history, including Gutenberg’s Bible in 1455 A.D. In addition, Callaghan will have samples of antique Bibles to view. Besides being a museum open to the public, the company is the world’s largest dealer of rare and antique Bibles.

No reservations are required for these programs; for more information, call 623-930-3573.
