Laptop computers may be borrowed by Glendale Public Library cardholders in good standing (i.e., no fines outstanding), who are age 18 or older. A laptop may not be borrowed by anyone who has previously violated the Glendale Public Library Laptop Loan Agreement.
Each borrower may check-out only one laptop at a time.
A borrowed laptop is to be used only by the person who is the borrower, and the borrower is expected to have a working knowledge of computers and programs.
Laptop computer borrowers must provide their own accessories (e.g., mouse, headphones, floppy disk and/or USB drive). The use of the accessories must not require the installation of any software on the laptop.
Borrowers may not install any software on the laptops.
Borrowers may not alter, delete or copy any software loaded on the laptop, or otherwise change its existing software or hardware configuration.
The laptops are unable to connect to the library’s printers. Printing can only be done at one of the library’s public PC workstations.
Laptops may only be used inside the Library buildings. Removal of laptops from the Library will be considered theft and may be subject to prosecution if not returned or the replacement charge is not paid.
The computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis when not in use for library programs or training. They cannot be reserved ahead of time.
Users wishing to save files they have created must save them to a floppy disk, USB drive, or personal internet account. All created files saved on the laptop will be wiped clean on the laptop’s return. The Glendale Public Library is not responsible for damage to any removable drive (e.g., floppy drive, USB drive, etc.), or for the loss or corruption of data that may occur due to malfunctioning hardware or software, or due to network failures or interruptions.
Under no circumstances should a borrower leave the laptop unattended. The borrower will be responsible for a laptop that is lost or stolen while checked out to him/her. If a laptop is left unattended and the laptop is stolen, the borrower is responsible for the replacement cost of the laptop.
Present to staff a valid Glendale Public Library card, and a valid Arizona Driver’s License or State of Arizona issued identification card at the Main, Velma Teague, or Foothills Library Public Service Desk at time of checkout. The Arizona Driver's License or State of Arizona ID card will be returned once the laptop is returned.
Check-out begins when the Library opens each day and ends one hour before the Library’s posted closing time.
Check-out is for a maximum of 4 hours (or at thirty minutes prior to posted closing time, if earlier) 2 hour renewals are allowed if there are laptops available for check-out.
Borrowers will be required to wait while returned laptops are checked in by a Library staff member at the Public Service Desk before the borrower leaves the library to ensure all equipment is intact. If a laptop is left on the counter and not checked in by a library staff member, the borrower’s laptop checkout privileges will be permanently revoked.
Borrowers are responsible for the replacement cost ($1,200.00) of the laptop if lost, stolen, or damaged.
