Library - Rules of Conduct

Patrons must be fully dressed, including shirts and shoes

Use of skateboards, razor scooters, heelys-type shoes in the building is strictly prohibited--
patrons may carry skateboards and may not leave them unattended

For the comfort and safety of patrons, volunteers, staff and the protection of library property, the following behaviors do not meet accepted library standards and include:

1.     Loud conversation or running

2.     Abandonment or leaving children under age 9 unattended

3.     Abuse or vandalism of library facilities or equipment, including attempts to interrupt or vandalize the computer system

4.     Bringing any animals (except for service animals) into the library

5.     Eating -- food and drinks are permitted but must be in closable containers and/or have secure lids

6.     Climbing on, putting feet upon, or vandalizing the plants, furniture, equipment, or artwork

7.     Gambling, panhandling, or soliciting

8.     Use of drugs, alcohol, or tobacco

9.     Harassment of staff, volunteers or patrons.  “harassment “ includes using profane and/or obscene language, directing verbal or physical threats toward another person, and engage in behavior with the sole intent of annoying another person

10.     Sleeping or not engaging in activities associated with the legitimate use of a public library while in the building  activities associated with the legitimate use of public library include reading, studying, using library material, or participating in events sponsored or approved by the library

11.     Bodily hygiene.  “neglected bodily hygiene” means bodily hygiene that is offensive as to constitute a nuisance to library staff, volunteers and other patrons

12.     Bathing, shaving, washing clothes and hair in the restrooms

13.     Use of cell phones, radios, tv, cassettes, or cd’s audible to others

14.     Voyeurism or peeping, exhibitionism or flashing, lewd or lascivious acts

15.     Violation of any criminal law of the State of Arizona

The following items are prohibited from being brought into the library:

a. Drugs, alcohol, dangerous weapons (knives, firearms, explosives), flammable materials

b. Bicycles, bedrolls, blankets, motorized scooters, and other large articles, without prior approval

 

Library staff will warn the patron who violates the rules of conduct.  Library staff will request the patron to leave the building if, after receiving a warning, the patron continuously or repeatedly engages in acts that violate the rules of conduct.  A patron who is asked to leave the building will also lose all library use privileges for 30 days.  Refusal to leave will result in the police being called, and violators being prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
