Glendale, AZ - Diversity Program
Glendale, AZ - Jobs

The City of Glendale's commitment to diversity is evident by the support that it demonstrates to employee committees and organizations.

There are currently 4 employee organizations dedicated to diversity; The Diversity Commission, The Diversity Committee, Glendale's Exceptional Municipal Staff (GEMS) and the Glendale Hispanic Network.

Please join us, as we come together at monthly meetings to plan programs, activities and events for the City of Glendale and it's employees.

Diversity Committee

The City of Glendale Diversity Committee gives recognition to and places value on the meaning and definition of diversity and the need for it within our organization. The City of Glendale Diversity Committee solicits representation from employees at all levels and areas of the organization. The committee makes strides to do the following:

  • Promote the benefits of developing a diverse workforce
  • Create an environment where diversity is respected, encouraged, valued and supported
  • Develop strategies for managing a diverse workforce
  • Provide a forum to openly and honestly discuss the City of Glendale’s policies, procedures and
  • Business practices as they relate to a diverse community.

The City’s Task Force on Diversity defines it as:

  • Accepting
  • Appreciating
  • Valuing Differences

Mission
Our Mission is: “To promote the value and recognize the strengths of a diverse workforce through education, awareness, and respect.”

Goal
Our Goal is: “To educate employees on the advantages of inclusion, the city’s definition of diversity, and the value it serves within our organization.”

GEMS

As an employee of the City of Glendale, you are automatically part of the GEMS group. GEMS stand for "Glendale's Exceptional Municipal Staff", which makes it your organization and offers opportunities that are both fun and rewarding.

GEMS sponsors educational forums; plans, organizes and sponsors such events as the annual holiday employee luncheon, conducts fund-raising activities, and plans periodic social events to provide a setting for informal networking outside of the work environment. Without the assistance of the planning committees and employee volunteers, none of these events are possible.
