Football widows club logoI'm sorry.  We didn't get enough interest in this club to continue.  We hope you will still look at all the great activities below that were planned and do to them anyways. 

If you would like to be part of something like this in the future, please email mstrunk@glendaleaz.com, to be placed on an interest list.  If there is enough interest gathered, we may do something similar in the future.

Nov. 3 

Xeriscape Botanical Garden Tour and Library Relaxation Day
1 p.m., Glendale Main LIbrary, 5959 W. Brown St., Glendale

Tour the award-winning Xeriscape Botanical Garden of nearly four acres with more than 400 species of plants. Enjoy the water conservation-themed artwork and the variety of desert flora. Considered one of the best demonstration gardens in the state, there are interesting plants for all to enjoy. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxing time at the library, get a library card (good at any Maricopa County library) or check out the music and DVD collection.

Nov. 10 "Ragtime"
at Theater Works

2 p.m., 8355 W. Peoria Ave., Peoria
Enjoy the musical "Ragtime." Jazz, automobiles, new ideas and new industries – the Ragtime era was when America came of age. Based on the 1975 novel by E. L. Doctorow, Ragtime tells the story of Americans from every walk of life, in a musical that has drama, comedy, sensitivity and sweep. From the toe tapping Getting’ Ready Rag to the jaw dropping Crime of the Century, Ragtime has something for everyone. See more here.

Nov. 17 Thunderbird Conservation Park Hike
11 a.m., 67th Ave. and Patrick Lane (north of Deer Valley Rd.), Glendale
Just less than a one-mile hike through the beautiful Sonoran Desert at the Thunderbird Conservation Park.  See some great views and wildlife and enjoy the weather.  The hike is rated from easy to moderate in some places.  Read more about Thunderbird Conservation Park here.

Nov. 24  Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium
11 a.m. 16501 W. Northern Ave., Litchfield Park
Enjoy the zoo in a new way - kidless!  Wildlife World Zoo & Aquarium displays Arizona’s largest collection of exotic animals, white tigers, lions, jaguars, leopards, giraffe, monkeys, Kangaroos, Sharks, Penguins, Stingray, and over 6,000 other exotic species. Dec. 8  Uptown Alley
1 p.m., 13525 N. Litchfield Road, Surprise
Get your game on at Uptown Alley, which is home to 40 lanes of bowling, laser tag, over 75 video and prize games, billiard tables, sports theatre and our own Red Embers Bar & Grill, which serves delicious classic Americana cuisine and hosts a full bar featuring 24 draft beers! Downtown Glendale Dinner and Glitters Light Display
5 p.m., 58th Ave. and Glenn Dr., Glendale

We will be heading to downtown Glendale for a dinner at one of downtown's best restaurants followed by a stroll through the Glendale Glitters' 1.5 million lights. For information on Glitters, click here.

Dec. 22 "Amahl and the Night Visitors"
3 p.m., West Valley Symphony, 15550 N. Parkview Pl., Surprise

Get in the holiday spirit with the Christmas opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" with Cantilena. A few days before Christmas Amahl, a disabled boy, is playing in his bedroom with his toys, gets ready for bed and drifts off to sleep.  In his dreams he meets the Three Kings. Find out what happens in this beautiful story.  Cantilena, a community choral group under the direction of Dr. Glenn Bennett, will add vocal beauty to the experience. Dec. 29 "The Sound of Music"
12 p.m., lunch with 2 p.m. show.  Arizona Broadway Theatre, 7701 W. Paradise Ln., Peoria
Arguably one of the world’s most-beloved musicals, "The Sound of Music" was Rodgers & Hammerstein’s final collaboration. With memorable songs like “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” you will thrill at this timeless classic brought to life on the Arizona Broadway Theatre stage! Pickleball Games
1 p.m., Foothills Recreation & Aquatics Center, 5600 W. Union Hills Dr., Glendale

Ever heard of Pickleball?  Play some fun games of indoor Pickleball, a paddle sport which combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis.It is very similar to tennis, but a pickleball ball typically moves slower and the court is about one-third the size. It's easy for beginners to learn and is tons of fun!  Event better, it doesn't require sports abilities. The day also ncludes a tour of the center.
