Glendale Firefighters To Participate In ‘Read Across America’ Event
Several members of the Glendale Fire Department will volunteer their time to read children’s books to the 1st and 2nd grade students of Harold W. Smith School, located at 6534 N. 63rd Avenue in Glendale, during the Read Across America week (March 2nd to March 6th.). The hours of the event are from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM of each day with breaks in between.
“Our members have always worked hard, on and off duty, for the benefit of our community and those who live in it,” said Glendale Fire Chief Mark Burdick. “We really can’t consider this work, who wouldn’t want the opportunity to help teachers positively impact a bunch of children?” Chief Burdick continued. Chief Burdick is also scheduled to read during the event.
Members of the Glendale Fire Department are scheduled to read in one-hour time blocks several times a day throughout the entire week. Each member will read a variety of children’s books including some of their personal favorites.
