Mission Statement

The Community Housing Division is responsible for addressing the rental housing needs of Glendale residents who cannot afford housing in the private market. Through the administration of the federal Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and Conventional Public Housing programs, the division helps eligible residents secure safe, decent, and sanitary housing. 

• As the Federal Housing Authority for the City of Glendale, the division operates three city-owned rental communities, which are designated for the Conventional Public Housing Program. Altogether, there are 155 units within these communities, and eligible residents can rent available units at a rate not to exceed 30 percent of their adjusted monthly income.
• The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program provides participants with vouchers to secure privately owned rental housing. Together, both programs assist over 4,237 individuals by providing them with a total of 1.6 million days of safe, decent, affordable housing each year, at an average daily cost of $4.86 per person.

By managing these programs very well, Glendale’s Community Housing Division has been rated as a high-performer for 14-years running by HUD. This designation demonstrates that Housing has satisfied the city’s strategic priorities of safety, service and quality of life.

Glendale’s Community Housing Division earns high performer status
For the 14th consecutive year, Glendale’s Community Housing Division has been rated as a high performer by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Fiscal Year ending June 2007.

HUD evaluates public housing program success based on a thorough review of all aspects of program administration including financial and program management, property condition, and resident satisfaction.

Glendale’s Community Housing Division manages 155 apartment homes in three rental communities, offering low income families safe, sanitary, decent, and affordable housing.
