Thanks to Volunteers
Special thanks to all the volunteers who came out recently to work on projects in the Sahuaro District. More than 25 volunteers from Glendale Christian Church participated in a project in Tierra Buena. The group was able to assist three homeowners with yard work and a small fence painting project.
This past weekend, 75 volunteers from M&I Bank and Canyon Point Academy participated in a Global Youth Service Day project at Thunderbird Paseo Park. The group picked up trash and afterwards the kids had a squirt gun fight.
I appreciate all the hard work these groups did and would like to encourage all groups and individuals to come out and volunteer. If you would like to participate in projects like these, call the Community Volunteer Program at (623) 930-2915.

Neighborhood Grants
Neighbors living in the Pioneer Neighborhood, near 63rd Avenue and Country Gables Drive, have new streetscape improvements as a result of a neighborhood grant. Councilmember Frate presented neighborhood leader Mark Davidson with a plaque to thank him for participating in the process to improve his neighborhood at a brief dedication ceremony on Thursday, April 24.
The Neighborhood Partnership Office administers a grant program that funds revitalization projects twice a year to assist neighborhoods more than 15 years old. Citizen participation and involvement are key components of the program. For more information on the Neighborhood Grants Program, click here or call (623) 930-2868. |

Commuter Rail Stakeholders Group
Councilmember Steve Frate was recently appointed to serve on the Maricopa Association of Governments (MAG) Commuter Rail Stakeholders Group.
The group is comprised of stakeholders from throughout the commuter rail planning area, including cities and towns, business organizations, transportation advocates and others. Over the course of the next year, the group will meet four times and will identify key issues, purpose and needs, along with goals and objectives for commuter rail. “I look forward to representing the city on this important group that will help identify the commuter rail opportunities in our community” Frate said.
