Cactus District Meeting, November 19, 6:30 p.m. – Rose Lane Recreation Center
Please join Councilmember Phil Lieberman at a community meeting for residents of the Cactus District at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, November 19 at Rose Lane Recreation Center, 5003 W. Marlette Ave.
Speakers will include:
- Chief Steven Conrad – will give a Police Department update
- Mark Ptashkin, Senior Building Inspector – will talk about unsafe structures and other building safety issues
- Sam McAllen, Code Compliance Director – will discuss code compliance
- Judge Elizabeth Finn – City Court – will address the court system & domestic violence
In addition to providing updates, the Glendale representatives will be available to answer questions from residents. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (623) 930-2878.

Cactus District Neighborhood Improvement Grants Update – FY 08-09
Mission Park – Councilmember Phil Lieberman contributed Cactus District funds to complete improvements at Mission Park. This project involved several partners, starting with the commitment of Sands West neighborhood. The neighborhood applied for a neighborhood grant, and worked closely with the city’s Neighborhood Partnerships Office and Parks & Recreation Department.
West Plaza Estates – Cactus District funds were also used to pay for repairs to the damaged entry monument at West Plaza Estates. The monument was originally installed as part of a neighborhood grant. |

Apollo Heights Neighborhood Grant
New entryway signage now greets residents of the Apollo Heights Neighborhood as the result of a beautification project at the southeast corner of 46th and Northern Avenues.
A neighborhood grant was awarded to the Apollo Heights Neighborhood Association by the Citizen’s Advisory Commission on Neighborhoods.

VIP Program
|
Through Glendale’s Visual Improvement Program (VIP), the city partnered with Gary Weinberger, owner of the property on the northwest corner of 43rd and Glendale Avenues, to demolish the old Poliberto’s building and redeveloped the site. Improvements included a new restaurant, landscaping, parking lot improvements and brick wall. |
