Barrel District - Meet Vice Mayor Yvonne J. Knaack
Vice Mayor Yvonne Knaack was elected in November 2006 to represent the Barrel District, was re-elected and began her second term in January 2011, and was appointed as Glendale’s first female Vice Mayor in February 2013. She is dedicated to maintaining and improving Glendale neighborhoods. She has worked and owned a business in Glendale since 1970 and has been a resident since 1984. Glendale 11 features Glendale Today with Glendale Vice Mayor Yvonne Knaack Glendale Today with Vice Mayor Yvonne Knaack on Coyotes Charities
Glendale Vice Mayor Yvonne Knaack  in her new edition of the TV show “Glendale Today”  highlights the Coyotes Charities organization and how it gives back to the community by supporting non-profit groups that promote healthcare, education, cultural arts and sports-related programs for children. The Vice Mayor’s guests are Anthony LeBlanc, co-owner and President and CEO of the Coyotes and Kimberly Trichel, Executive Director of Community Relations for Coyotes Charities. Some of the organizations discussed that benefit include Banner Thunderbird and Phoenix Children’s Hospitals, St. Mary’s Food Bank and St. Vincent DePaul, Habitat for Humanity, the Yarnell firefighters, Special Olympics and youth hockey programs in Glendale and throughout the Valley of the Sun. The show airs Fridays at 8 p.m. and at various other times throughout the week .Glendale, AZ - Glendale 11 Watch Now

VICE MAYOR KNAACK HOSTING BARREL DISTRICT MEETING – FEB 20
Vice Mayor Yvonne Knaack is hosting a community meeting for residents living in the Barrel District on Thursday, February 20 at the Glendale Main Library, 5959 W. Brown St. The meeting will be held in the large meeting room. Knaack will be joined by Glendale City Manager Brenda Fischer and Executive Director of Financial Services Tom Duensing. The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a “meet and greet” giving residents an opportunity to talk individually with Vice Mayor Knaack. Presentations will begin promptly at 6 p.m. In addition to providing updates on future plans for Glendale, representatives will be available to answer questions from residents. Students at Desert Palms Elementary School celebrated International Walk & Bike to School Day along with some very special crossing guards. Mayor Jerry Weiers, Vice Mayor Yvonne Knaack and Coyotes mascot Howler partnered with school faculty, students and public safety officials to educate students on safety while traveling to school. The city of Glendale is very pleased with the announcement from the National Hockey League (NHL) that IceArizona Acquisition Co., LLC has finalized its purchase of the team. The city is looking forward to working with IceArizona to continue the long-term presence and success of the Coyotes in Glendale. As we move forward, the city and team will focus on building momentum for this season by welcoming new and returning fans to Glendale's Sports and Entertainment District and supporting the many shops and restaurants that make up this important economic engine for the city.

Glendale, AZ - Barrel Judge Finn Honored with Award from the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence
Vice Mayor Knaack nominated and presented Glendale Presiding Judge Elizabeth Finn with an award from the Arizona Coalition Against Domestic Violence recently in recognition of her work to combat domestic violence.

Glendale, AZ - News National Register of Historic Places
Thunderbird Estates / McDonald Addition subdivision, located between Northern Ave. and Royal Palm Rd. from 57th Dr. to 59th Ave., is the first Barrel District neighborhood to become eligible to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The nomination was considered by the State Historic Site Selection Committee in late January.  At that time the committee recommended to the State Historic Preservation Officer that the nomination be sent to the Keeper of the National Register. The Keeper makes the final determination to list or reject the nomination on the National Register.  48 properties were nominated as typifying the Ranch House of Post World War II.
